About me
I was born in Melbourne and moved to Hong Kong soon after, spending my formative years there with my family.
I came back to Melbourne to finish high school and complete a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at RMIT.
After working in the technology trade press, I headed to London where I worked in the financial trade press, as well as at Reuters and Dow Jones Newswires. I returned to Australia in 2006 to work at Australian Associated Press as lead mining writer, before becoming founding news editor at Business Spectator, where I was later interviews editor and China commentator.
I then moved to the Herald Sun, becoming the country’s first social media editor, before being elevated to become national social media editor for News Corp in Australia.
I transitioned into the not-for-profit sector as social media lead for Australian Red Cross, before working in a variety communications and media relations roles, leveraging my long history of volunteer work in the space.
My most recent roles were as acting editor of Pro Bono News and Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary of the Public Interest Journalism Initiative, in addition to my freelance journalism work , media advisory consulting and writing my first book, Hard to Bear: Investigating the science and silence of miscarriage.
I am the Co-Founder and Chair of the Early Pregnancy Loss Coalition, which in 2024 secured the first ever dedicated funding for the miscarriage sector in a Federal Budget.
I have written for Meanjin, The Guardian, ArtsHub, Beat Magazine, The Age & SMH and more.
I was a board member at the Melbourne Press Club and Quills judge for five years and have lectured extensively journalism.
